South East Hills Neighborhood Watch
Boundaries – Old French Rd to Pine Avenue – E 33rd to E 38th

South East Hills Neighborhood Watch (Mercyhurst Area) was
founded in 2007 in response to an increase in college rental units
in the neighborhood and college student-related incidents (public
intoxication, etc.).

We meet the first Monday of the month at 7pm at Lamb of God
Lutheran Church on East 37th and Ash Streets.  We meet monthly
except for the month of July.

We have isolated the partying from college rental units
tremendously.  People are more proactive in dealing with blight
from college rental units, including meeting the students as they
move in and setting expectations for the school year.  We have
also instituted the very popular South East Erie Farmers Market
on East 38th and Pine Avenue.

We have participated in the United Way Day of Caring and
founded the South East Erie Farmers Market in cooperation with
Mercyhurst College.  We also have a “Good Neighbor Award” for
rental units that are kept neat and clean with respectful residents.

Our goal is to increase the quality of life for our residents by
mitigating the negatives of college rental units in the
neighborhood through cooperation, education, and relationship
building.  We want to make our neighborhood a welcoming place
that people want to call home.  We do this through our
Neighborhood Watch activities and Farmers Market.

Community partners include Mercyhurst College, Penn State
Behrend, the City of Erie, and neighborhood Churches and
businesses.
